learning and playing together

In bringing people together who might not normally interact, special activities expand networks beyond immediate friend groups and demographics. This, in turn, helps strengthen a sense of community and its identity over time. People who feel connected to a community are more likely to volunteer, engage in civic activities, support local organizations and, in general, contribute to the greater good. This drives Aqus Community’s special activities: connecting people and building a stronger community while having fun!

“I appreciate all you do. You make our community a wonderful, vibrant place to be.” — Trevor

Just Join Something – Get to know unfamiliar aspects of your community and make new connections by joining one new organization a year for the next five years!

Film Screenings – Films about community-generated special interests and building social capital are not only entertaining and informational, they reinforce the core value of human connectivity.

Guest Speakers – A wide variety of experts and inspirational presenters offers an opportunity to learn new perspectives on a variety of topics.

Social Crawls – Invite-only, community “crawls” to local gathering spots draw on chosen themes designed to spark conversations, friendships, and real social connections.

Fairs & Expos – These events are opportunities for businesses and nonprofits to showcase their goods and services, and for the public to learn, join, or volunteer.

Wednesday Walks – Through the simplicity of a walk to the local park, neighbors reconnect with each other, make new friends, enjoy public spaces, reduce isolation, and rebuild community.

Neighborhood Picnics – Pop-up picnics at neighborhood parks happen organically throughout the summer and have the same range of positive results as the Wednesday Walks.

Musical Events – In addition to creating shared memories, the experience of concerts, outdoor festivals, and open mics have the power to connect and energize all of us.
